The New Left movements of 1968 had an impact on Hungary, as well. The Orfeo group was founded on the initiative of young artists, and included a puppet ensemble, an orchestra, a theater, a visual arts workshop, and for a short time it also ran several youth clubs in Budapest.
The Orfeo group was firmly opposed to the hypocrisy of existing socialism, and the police and the press did everything in their power to prevent the group’s activities. The political debates, artistic dilemmas and personal conflicts of left-wing radicalism of the 1970s were intertwined in the life and work of the Orfeo group. Our film tells the story of this unique experiment.
The program will be held in Hungarian.
