The Reactive Citizen
Program Series on the Planned Expansion of the Paks Nuclear Plant
OSA Archivum is holding a film screening and debate series, The Reactive Citizen, addressing the planned expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant in central Hungary. The deal between Hungary and Russia for the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) to build two new reactors at Paks was announced on January 14. Although this decision affects all of us, it was taken without any form of consultation.
We cannot acquiesce to everything, or accept every decision without comment. How can we look to the future, or into our the eyes of our children, if we swallow the Paks deal whole, and with it the Russian loan, our own defenselessness and the uncertain future? Regardless of party political affiliation, responsible citizens cannot look on helplessly as the Hungarian Prime Minister decides to approve a nuclear power station that will directly affect our future and that of our children, the way he decides to build a football stadium in his own back yard.
Further details on the debate series are available in Hungarian at OSA’s Facebook page.
