Last Speech of János Kádár
Dir. András Sólyom, 2005, 50’

On April 12, 1989, János Kádár, the 77-year-old president of the Party, who had been ill for a year, appeared and spoke at a closed meeting of the Central Committee of the MSZMP (Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party). In his last speech, unexpectedly for everyone, he was about to testify about his 1956 trial in Moscow (which he had never spoken about publicly before) and about the condemnation and execution of Imre Nagy. The interpretation of János Kádár’s fragmented thoughts is aided by writer Mihály Kornis.

After the film, András Sólyom and Mihály Kornis are interviewed by historian András Mink.

The program is in Hungarian.
