Daughter of Genghis
directed by Kristoffer Juel Poulsen & Christian Als
Denmark, France, Mongolia, Sweden, 2023, 86 mins
in Mongolian language, with English and Hungarian subtitles

Gerel has a mission: she wants to protect her motherland Mongolia from China’s influence. She founds an ultra-nationalistic feminist women’s group that takes action against Mongolian prostitutes and their Chinese punters. The single mother even neglects her son in pursuit of her political goals. Eventually, in search of inner peace, Gerel turns away from hatred and towards her culture and family.

After the screening, we will have a discussion with our invited guests: historian Tóth G. Péter, one of the curators of the exhibition; Ferenc Kanyó, who researched the exhibition materials; as well as filmmakers Zoltán Füredi and Gergő Somogyvári, the director and cinematographer of the film Innermost Asia.

The film will be screened with English and Hungarian subtitles, the discussion will be in Hungarian.
